Participation in an academic panel at the University of the Peloponnese

Dipylon took part in a discussion entitled “Καιρὸν γνῶθι (Know your opportunity) - the role of archaeology in modern times” set up by the students of the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Management of the University of the Peloponnese in Kalamata, on April 27, 2018.

Their invitation read:

“Know your opportunity. With these words, one of the seven sages of Ancient Greece urged people to know what goes on in their time. These words, then, by Pittacus of Mytilene, come to guide us, with the help of experts on the topic, on what archaeology’s role is in modern times”.

The idea came from the students of the Department under the scientific coordination of Evyenia Yiannouli, Associate Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology, also Head of the Maritime Archaeology Laboratory. The interlocutors in the panel included Dr. Stamatis Fritzilas (Ephorate of the Antiquities of Messinia), Dr. Panagiota Kourakli (Director of the Department of Urban Planning, Municipality of Kalamata), together with Annita Theocharaki and Leda Costaki (Dipylon). The audience was students of the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies.
