“The antiquities on the Western Hills of Athens” with the use of Geographic Information Systems

Dipylon organized once again this year a Geographic Information Systems training seminar in collaboration with the workers’ cooperation commonspace.

Having our latest project as a topic, Athens Western Hills, the seminar took place from the 8th of May to the 5th of June, 2019; it was organized with the support of the Greek Chapter of the international nonprofit organization "Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology" (CAA-GR) and the Laboratory of Geophysics - Satellite Remote Sensing & Archaeo-Environment of the Institute of Mediterranean Studies.

Historians, archaeologists and engineers had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the use of open source GIS software (QGIS) as well as with the basic concepts and applications of digital historical cartography. At the end of the workshop, they were able to solve a geo-archaeological problem of their interest.
